Wired hangs out with survival expert Dr. Bill Schindler who tells us how to make stone tools in the wild.
Humans have proved themselves to be excellent survivors in the wild, despite having tiny fingernails, blunt teeth and relatively weak limbs. So how have we managed to become the dominant species on Earth? Well, it was our brains and ingenuity that got us so far. Mankind was making stone tools millions of years ago, but most of us nowadays would have no idea how to follow in the footsteps of our ancestors.
In this video we’re taught how to create sharp objects out of big rocks. It’s surprisingly simple, but can be a hard skill to master. Bill explains some of the techniques that ancient humans used and also walks us through some of the more complicated tricks as well. It’s just the tip of the iceberg though, as making spears, axes and daggers can be much harder and take much more time. But if you watch this vid, you’ll definitely have some of the basics nailed . Good luck…
