New York City has a pretty major noise pollution problem, but one of the biggest sources of noise is one that is completely voluntary – this video from Gothamist sends filmmaker Jeff Seal out into the streets of the city to find out exactly why drivers are honking at each other so much. The resulting video is one-part serious documentary about a problem that is genuinely effecting people’s health in ways they might realise, and one-part a comedic video featuring a man getting sworn at by some already pretty irate drivers. The video shines a light on a problem that’s endemic in most cities but hard to control, and features a brilliant piece of traffic-mediation from Seal as he tries to get to the root of one instance of honking between two motorists, which actually ends in a beautifully amicable “have a nice day” – that’s better than any car horn we’ve ever heard.
