The howling wind. The rugged terrain. The shredded stone underneath your tyres like ‘broken dinner plates’. This is the environment of alpine bikers, extreme mountain bikers who relish the peaks of British Columbia.

This film from Freehub Magazine, sponsored by Maxxis, tells the story of what it’s like to build and ride a new alpine trail. High up in the Kootenay mountains the terrain is absolutely beautiful, but it can also be unforgiving. The remoteness and ruggedness of it creates a backcountry experience like no other.

The 16-minute documentary follows Thomas Vanderham, Veronique Sandler and the Retallack build crew as they spend a week camping and creating an alpine bike trail. The documentary culminates in the adrenaline-pumping ride down the steep slopes.

After so long cooped up inside its thrilling to see these people hitting the slopes again, and you can always feel the wind in your hair just watching.
