This awe-inspiring documentary from The New York Times explores the real consequences on the human spirit that venturing into deep space can bring about.

Presented as a combination of archive footage and interviews with the members of the Apollo 8 mission in 1968, the astronauts talk through the mission itself and the instructions they were given, and discuss the emotional effect seeing the Earth from so far away had.

The astronauts were the first humans to ever see the Earth from the distance of the Moon, and took the now iconic “Earthrise” photograph while on the journey. The mental and physical toll it took on the astronauts is discussed in the documentary by the crew, as well as the long-term impact of the mission itself.
