What is life like in an English school after lockdown?

Now the restrictions in England are beginning to be eased, life for many is beginning to go – well, maybe not normal, but back to a new kind of normal. For young people around the country this means going back to school in an age of social distancing, mask wearing and hand washing.

But what is this like? The Guardian has created this short documentary to go behind the scenes at a school in Birmingham to find out what this new normal after lockdown is like.

How many students are allowed in at any one moment? How are classes different? How are teachers keeping themselves and their students safe?

The documentary explores the new aspects of life in an English school during coronavirus. How long will these measures be in place for? What kind of impact will it have on students’ learning?

The kids in the video describe it as “our generation’s world war.”

Only time will tell.
