This dazzling short animation was made for the Chinese release of 2018’s blockbuster Pacific Rim: Uprising, and is a collaboration between sportswear brand JD.com.

 

The self-proclaimed “micro-movie” features JD’s mascot Joy, who is rebranded as Gypsy Joy for the purpose of the animation. Taking the already CGI-heavy subject matter and re-animating it in a cartoony, manga-style way, the slick and action-packed animation is a great way of appealing to the massive Chinese market in a way that benefits both the brand and the film.
