The Japanese food restaurant chain Wagamama made this Anime style advert called “Bowl to soul”.

Established in the UK in the early 90s, the brand has grown massively since then. Its owner looked to bring traditional Japanese cuisine into the mainstream and export it across Britain. Many of the recipes and menu items are classics in East Asia and the company prides itself on making authentic grub.

Wagamama looks towards its Japanese roots in this ad. Anime is a style of animation popular in the country. Many critically-acclaimed films that use the style have been released over the years, with Spirited Away and Ghost In The Shell standing out as modern classics. In this ad, we’re taken into a stylised version of London and follow one young woman as she visits a Wagamama restaurant. As she tucks into the tasty noodle dish, she’s transported to another world. The taste is so incredibly authentic that it makes her feel as though she’s travelled to the stunning countryside of rural Japan. It’s an awesome concept for an ad.
