Some trailers are awesome but some are pretty awful. So who’s calling the shots? How’re they made and who makes them? Vanity Fair answers all of these questions and more in this video.
The art of mastering the perfect movie trailer is tricky. You don’t want to reveal too much, but you want to entice audiences into seeing your flick. The expert in this video tells us how each movie is meticulously picked through to find the best shots, scenes and characters that represent the film well. Picking the right music and creating a certain tone allows the studio to market the trailer towards specific groups of people.
Making sure that any big named actors are front and centre is important too. If lots of famous faces are in your trailer, it signals to the viewer that it’s likely to have quite a big budget and will probably have a well-known director attached to it too. There are lots of “shortcuts” that editors make to tell audiences a lot, even if they’re only showing a little.
