The upcoming feature-length documentary Unbanned: The Legend of AJ1, is a stark and surprisingly brutal look into the legacy and controversy that surrounds the mythical Air Jordan sport shoes. Not exactly a piece of branded content per-se, the documentary was created independently but draws heavily from Nike for its information – however it deals with difficult issues that no brand marketing team would ever want a film to go into, from the deep problems with racism affecting the NBA in the 1980’s all the way through to incidents of kids killing each other for their Air Jordan sneakers.
