Ok, we’re calling it – viral marketing is dead. Every day it seems like there is news of an agency shaving adverts into dogs or something just to gain some attention, and now these campaigns are beginning to directly affect the simple pleasure of going to a pub. The promote the new series of Western/sci-fi Westworld, Now TV installed a genuinely terrifying robot cowboy in a pub in London, capable of moving and talking with customers and just generally freaking everyone out. Customer’s comments on the robot ranged from it being “frightening and unnerving” to the fact that it “really wanted me to watch Westworld” – all they wanted to do was have a pint and watch the darts #SayNoToViralMarketingInPubs
