INSIDER follows car enthusiasts who’re turning warplane fuel tanks into hot rods. Fuel tanks used to carry extra petrol for planes in World War 2 have been collected for decades by car nuts, as they are the perfect shape and weight for building super-quick hot rods!

After the war ended, old fuel tanks were littered around junkyards all over America. As planes got better, the country was left with thousands of outdated tanks, left to rot in dumps in the US.

Then, a few petrol heads realised that the tanks were an excellent shape and weight for small hot rods that could catch some serious speed. After doing a bit of tinkering, they soon dominated the car scene. The culture still lives on to this day with budding car makers creating their own versions of the awesome automobiles.
