Laundry detergent Tide win our vote for best Superbowl advert this year, by making fun of literally every other advert ever made. In the video we are taken on a journey by Stranger Things’ David Harbour, through stereotypical car commercials, beer ads and abstract perfume promos – each time with him stopping proceedings to explain that no, this is still a Tide advert. It’s surprisingly meta and very self-aware of the usual advertising tropes, and from a marketer’s perspective it’s actually extremely successful, as the brand’s name is said about 50 times for a legitimate reason.
