Film maker Jacob Rosenberg meets legendary skateboarding photographer Mike Blabac in this awesome documentary.
Mike has been shooting skate photos since the 90s and has earned a reputation as one of the best in the biz. He’s known for his ability to capture totally unique shots that really utilise their surroundings. In this documentary, we hear about the secrets to good photo taking and learn the tricks of the trade.
As well as that, we also learn about the art of capturing portraits of skaters. For magazines, it’s common to see portrait shots which can give a more intimate view of people’s favourite boarders. These people are often thick-skinned by virtue of the gruelling and challenging sport of skateboarding, so to get a closer look at them can be really revealing and can give you a new perspective on them. Ultimately, Mike tells us how his aim is to always take pictures that appeal to both skate fans and ordinary people alike. The photos should be so good that anyone is able to appreciate the art, workmanship and determination that has gone into getting them.
