This stunning documentary from Topic follows some of the inmates in the Arizona Department of Corrections who spend their days working to “gentle” wild horses in preparation for adoption. The beautifully shot documentary begins with aerial shots of the horses out of the plains, being slowly rounded up into pens before they are put into holding. What follows is an intimate look at how the prisoners form a bond with these animals during their time together, with one saying the horses are so child-like in their wild-ness they even need to be taught how to walk properly. It’s stunning to see how the men find happiness in working with the animals, but at the same time have to reconcile the fact that one day their time together will come to an end.
