Proving the power of print media in a digital age, the latest advert from the New York Times highlights the real work-flow and research that went into some of the most important new stories of this year.

Using quick typography and images as well as actual recorded phone calls, the video titled Perseverance shows how journalist Caitlin Dickerson unearthed the now-infamous separation of child refugees from their families at the United States border, beginning with just a rumour and hunting down leads from government sources and fact-checking information against those involved in the crisis.

The video culminates with the headline of the story which broke the news, showing the intricate and convoluted path to the truth reporters must take when pursuing a story. The video is the first in a series of videos, the second showing in a similar fashion how David Barstow, Susanne Craig and Ross Buettner spent 18 months diligently digging into Donald Trump’s family’s tax schemes.
