TED-Ed talk about the mystery of air turbulence in this cool animation. Most of us have experienced air turbulence whilst on a plane. But why does it happen and what causes it?

Surprisingly, scientists don’t really know the answer. Although there are theories, there’s no clear answer as to why turbulence occurs in the air and why it effects planes in the way it does.

Although scientists aren’t sure entirely why the process happens, you shouldn’t be worried to get on a plane. Pilots and plane makers know how to deal with turbulence, should they hit it, even if they’re not sure why they’re hitting it!
