YouTube channel Now You See It gives us a whole new perspective on The Matrix films in this fascinating video. The movies made people rethink their own existence and caused people from all over the world challenge their beliefs and world views.

The film was the brain-child of the Wachowskis, two maverick sibling film makers. Some years after The Matrix was released, both brothers came out as transgender and transitioned into women. So often the themes of the Matrix films are discussed and dissected, but the video essay compares the themes of the film with the lives of its creators.

The idea of being true to yourself is a key element of the Matrix Trilogy. This video essay points out some interesting parrallels. The main character Neo, changes his name and identity from the Matrix version of himself, Thomas Anderson. It’s similar to the change in identity that comes with transitioning from male to female. Often, people’s personal lives bleed into the art that they create, and this video essay brilliantly shows us how that happened with the Wachowskis and the Matrix franchise.
