Great Big Story meet the surgeon who has restored sight to thousands of blind Nepalese people in this touching documentary.

Dr. Sanduk Ruit, is in charge of the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology, a non-profit organisation that looks to provide eye treatment to those who can’t get it. Despite being a small country, Nepal make up 90% of the global blind population. The main cause of sight loss in the country is cataracts. As surgery is the only cure, many people in remote villages struggle to receive treatment.

Dr Sanduk goes out to these remote places to treat patients and restores their sight. In total, he has treated hundreds and thousands of different people. In some open sessions, he will even treat patients one after another sometimes for 13 hours straight. He’s also done a lot of work to reduce the price of the lenses that are vital to cataracts treatment from over 300 dollars to just 3 dollars. Great Big Story do an excellent job of bringing this amazing story to life and show us the difference that just one man make can make to thousands of others.
