Movies Insider show us what it’s like to be a Hollywood creature performer in this eye-opening video. Ever watch a film with a CGI creature in it and wonder to yourself, what on earth are the actors seeing? Well, you’re about to find out.

In this video, we meet Edd Osmond. In the movie Dumbo, Edd stepped into a CGI suit to portray the famous elephant. He worked as a reference for the actors to look at in the scene and he allowed the editing team to make Dumbo’s movements look as real as possible. Often, when animators are trying to make a realistic animal on screen, making them move like the real thing can be really tricky.

For Dumbo, Edd spent hours looking at footage of elephants to try and replicate the way that they walk and interact with their environment. It’s fascinating to see all the work that goes on behind the scenes and learn about Edd’s totally unique role. He’s been in lots of other movies as a creature performer as well, although you won’t have ever known that he was there.
