How did you get to work today? Car? Bike? Tube? The Financial Times shows us what our commutes will look like in 2050.
In this vid, they talk about all the different forms of tech that will shape transport in cities and, yes, chances are you’ll live in a city in 2050. The urban population is set to grow rapidly in the future, meaning more of us will be travelling alongside thousands of fellow commuters every day. If you currently travel to work by car currently, you might still be getting to work in the same way, but you won’t be driving. Autonomous cars and taxis will make up a big portion of road users in the future.
More of us will be getting to work on two wheels as well. With most major cities looking to massively reduce their carbon footprints, low emission electric scooters and traditional bikes will make up a bigger share of road users. Light aircraft taxis will also be a feature. Uber are already trialing mini helicopters in some cities. Finally, as road congestion lessens, more people will simply choose to walk to work. Turns out one of the most significant developments in commuting isn’t anything to do with tech at all…
