The BBC kicks off their coverage of the 2019 UK General Election with this great promo.
Due to broadcasting law and rules relating to equal coverage of all parties, the BBC has to stay pretty impartial during UK elections. Their coverage can’t favour one party more than another or represent one view more favourably than another. But the one thing that they can represent the equally, is the electorate.
In this ad, we see lots of “number 10s” but these aren’t the number 10s on Downing Street, these are number 10s that are scattered all over the country. The message of the ad is that whatever happens inside the Prime Minister’s house after December the 12th will affect all of us in our own homes as well. The BBC are taking a more grass roots approach to this election and are striving to represent the views of the average Brit better than ever before. This ad looks to remind viewers that the BBC will ditch political jargon and confusing slogans and focus on what really matters. The voters themselves.
