Still Here is an intimate and eye-opening documentary/interview with Melvin Dismukes, the security guard who got caught up in the infamous Algiers Motel incident in Detroit during the 1967 riots. Dismukes was played by John Boyega in the recent film adaptation of the incident, Detroit by Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow – the interview is interspersed with clips from the movie as Dismukes recounts what happened to him that night in his own words. More than 50 years on from the event, it is clear that it still affects him to this day, as he talks about how he continues to work despite his failing health in order to keep his mind off the events of that evening and the retribution he feels scared may one day happen to him.
