Steve Lacy released this Earth, Wind and Fire inspired music video for his wicked song Playground.

The video uses the same trippy effect seen in the music video for September by the aforementioned funk band. Steve takes the effect into the 21st century, giving it a fresh new look for a new generation. It gives the vid a trippy, old-school feel and makes it stand out from the high-budget, flashy vids made by pop stars from around the world.

Childish Gambino has looked to soul and funk legends like Bootsy Collins and Funkadelic for inspiration in his new music. Who knows, maybe artists like Steve and Gambino could kick start a 70s revival. Time to break out those old flared jeans and mini skirts and grow out some dodgy haircuts? Hmm, maybe not, but in any case this is a great throwback song and an even better music video. It’s brought back a classic style from an iconic era in music
