You might have seen those videos on YouTube by now where people set fire to wire wool then swing it around on a piece of string, the resulting effect being a Catherine Wheel of sparks flying out as the particles of the wool come away from the main body. The music video for Saturn by Sleeping At Last uses this simple effect but in a much more cinematic way than anything you will have seen on YouTube. The video is shot in dark and moody locations, making the flaming sparks literally jump out of the screen, and with all the footage reversed, it’s like the raining fire is leaping back into the sky, making for an incredibly cool effect.
