Shell suits, tie-dye and terrible hair – the 90’s were a bad time for everyone including car manufacturers… This latest advert from Škoda France makes fun of the whole decade’s fashion choices, including their own.
Titled Ugly In The 90’s, the video is a montage of all the most horrible tropes from the 90’s, with lots of acne, middle of the road dance music and awful, awful eyewear on display.

With the end tagline “We weren’t the only ugly ones in the 90’s”, the video is a funny and self-aware take on the fact that the brand has evolved and changed since its hey-day. By drawing attention to the new, more modern Škoda designs, the ad is a tongue-in-cheek take on retro culture that isn’t afraid to make fun of itself in the process (as well as that waxed hair you used to have back then, what were you thinking?).
