Great Big Story follows a man who’s saving languages from extinction. As the world has developed and become more global, local, small languages have been dying out, as countries look more outward.

In this mini-doc, we meet one man who’s set up a project to record people speaking in small, local languages that are at risk of becoming extinct. If a language dies and there’s no record of how it was spoken, there’s no way it can be revived.

Saving Languages From Extinction

Based in New York City, which is among the most linguistically diverse cities on the planet, Wikitounges looks to create a database of endangered languages by recording videos of people speaking them. It’s a touching story that reminds us the importance of documenting different cultures and languages so that future generations can carry them forward.
