You would think it’d be hard for a short film that’s based around the deaths of pets to be funny and lighthearted, but Rodney by award winning film maker Fred Rowson does just that. The eponymous hero Rodney Pink is a South London retiree who starts a strange business of allowing others to bury their deceased critters in his back garden, leading to a rather cluttered collection of tiny headstones that Rodney has to upkeep. The film is shot in a comical way, with the fourth wall being non-existent as Rodney addresses the viewer and keeps them informed of his problems, and even manages to keep things funny when he’s washing the blood of a Great Dane off his floor.
