Peep Show star Robert Webb becomes a human telly in this ad from NowTV.
In it, we see a family sitting down to have a chat with their TV. They have a bit of a confession to make. They do love their faithful telly, but think that sometimes it’s just, well, a bit rubbish. About 70% good and entertaining, 30% boring and dull. Hence all the channel hopping. The TV is horrified and thought it was keeping the family happy 24/7.
But it’s not the end for the television. The family have bought a NowTV stick, so that they can have more choice and watch good shows 100% of the time. Just don’t ask how they “plug it in”. It’s a clever ad that pokes fun at the monotony of terrestrial telly. In a world of streaming services, just channel hopping and hoping to find something good is no longer an option. In fact, less people are watching actual TV screens in general, as 82% of British people used streaming services last year and many of them are choosing to watch their shows on laptops and smart devices.
