Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali and Academy Award nominee Viggo Mortensen appear alongside each other in Green Book, which already looks like it could sweep up at awards season.
Based on the real-life story of a friendship between an Italian-American bouncer/driver known as “Tony Lip” and the famous pianist Don Shirely, the film follows the two as they embark on a tour of the Deep South of America during the time of racial segregation.
The film uses the story of the duo’s friendship to deal with issues of race and prejudice, and the realities of what it meant to be a black person in times of segregation – “Green Book” refers to the guidebooks that black travellers would use when attempting to move through segregated areas.
Released on November 21st, the trailer already hints that we could be looking at two knockout performances from Academy heavyweights, and the subject matter already makes this a surefire nominee for some big awards…
