The 2018 Oscars was an extremely safe affair – you can’t really blame them after the whole opening the wrong envelope fiasco of the year before – so there hasn’t really been that much to discuss. That is until comedy group The Lonely Island uploaded this video to their YouTube channel. The video begins with some text explaining the situation – they were asked to write a song for the ceremony, but what they submitted was deemed “financially and logistically impossible”, so instead they’ve released the demo version along with the proposed story-board. The video is hilarious in of itself despite having no production value, as the song is a celebration of the blockbuster movies of the year, asking why they are never considered for an award. Personally, we would have loved to see this idea get made, but we’re happy with just the concept as it stands.
