Nike’s new shoes are rubbish, literally. The brand have made a pair of trainers that are mostly made out of old plastic and recycled sneakers.

The Space Hippie shoe is a project by Nike makes sure their sneakers have a very small plastic footprint. Trainer brands have come under fire in recent years for being big contributors to waste that’s created by the fashion industry. Thick rubber soles and chunky fabrics means that sneakers can be really bad for the planet they’re tossed in a landfill. Nike want to change all of that.

In this video, we hear how they came up with a design for a shoe that had sustainability at its core. But on top of that, they had to look great as well. They succeeded in that goal as the Space Hippie looks like a combo of space age design and eco ideas. It’s a great promo from Nike that takes us inside their interesting production process.  Did you enjoy the video? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments.
