The New York Times released a 6-part animated series called Conception, all to do with having kids and real stories of how having a child can affect people in different ways. The animated shorts are narrated by the parents at the centre of each story, and deal with some extremely difficult subject matters. This episode is called Yael’s Story, and tells of her struggles to deal with postpartum depression after the birth of her son. It’s hard to listen to at points as she talks about her suicide attempts and the death of her mother, but as postpartum depression is said to affect 15% of new mothers, it is important for stories like Yael’s to be heard so the condition can be understood.
