Netflix’s continuing push to create its own feature-length content has been a story of hits (Beasts of No Nation) and misses (The Cloverfield Paradox, anyone?), but the upcoming Hold The Dark looks like a sure-fire winner from the trailer…

Starring Westworld’s Jeffry Wright as a retired wolf expert who is brought in to hunt the animals responsible for killing a young boy, the film shows him being slowly dragged into a spooky world of masked killers and strange characters in the frozen wilderness of Alaska.

Directed by Jeremy Saulnier, who previously helmed the brilliant thriller Green Room and is currently directing the third series of HBO’s acclaimed series True Detective, the visuals from the trailer already appear to be bone-chillingly tense, with bursts of action and suspenseful conversations thrown in.

Released on September 28th exclusively on Netlflix, the film is another example of the streaming giant branching out with its content by commissioning original scripts and taking risks that normal production companies wouldn’t have the funds to do…
