Netflix takes us inside of the production of the relaunched drama series Top Boy in this documentary.

The show began on Channel 4 and portrayed the gritty gang lifestyles of inner-city Londoners. It was critically acclaimed when it came out, with some saying that it was like the British version of the hit US TV show The Wire. But despite the love that Top Boy received, it was cancelled after its second season. Was this the end for the hard-hitting crime drama?

Not by a long shot. Out of nowhere, superstar rapper Drake announced that he was going to try and get the show recommissioned and it eventually found a home on the streaming service Netflix. This documentary takes us inside the incredible journey that spawned this new series and shows us how much it meant to the actors involved. The show prides itself on being relentlessly authentic. Most of the cast grew up in similar situations to their characters and the show is filmed on location, in London’s historically working-class borough of Hackney, in the East End.
