The amount of plastic that is dumped into our Oceans is becoming one of the most pressing environmental issues we’re facing as a species today. Series like the BBC’s Blue Planet have helped to draw more attention to the problem, but while awareness may be growing, the garbage patches are too. Vice’s HBO series took a look at the real damage plastic pollution is having on animal species, as well as the visible signs it has on the environment by visiting Kamilo Point in Hawaii. Luckily, there are people in the world doing what they can to help combat the pollution, and the documentary also talks to the young Dutch entrepreneur Boyan Slat, who is behind a large scale operation to clean up the Ocean’s waters through clever use of recycling.
