Mordor eat your heart out – this Russian documentary looks more like a vision of hell than Sauron’s hometown ever did. Metallurgist follows a man called Vladimir, a specialist in smelting cast iron and all-round nut job. Vladimir’s place of work is a smelting plant, full of molten metal, grinding machinery and exploding sparks, and the documentary is shot so dramatically you can almost feel the heat coming off your screen as you see the hooded figures calmly controlling the stream of molten iron. Next time you feel stressed at your workplace, take a moment and think of Vladimir, as at least you’re not in any danger of being encased in metal at that office job you complain about all the time.
