Refinery29 meets the scientists who are saving polar bears from the effects of climate change in this moving documentary.

We’re taken to the icy regions of Northern Canada, where we hear from Thea Bechshoft and Dr Steven Amstrup. These two scientists record and measure the impact that global warming is having on the natural habitats of polar bears in the arctic. The sea ice up here is a vital resource for the bears, as it allows them to capture their prey for food. Their numbers have been dropping drastically over the last 30 years, as the temperature of our planet has gone up significantly which has ruined many of their habitats.

We hear from the scientists about the work that they do. Their job is to accurately record the numbers of polar bears in this region and also measure how much of the ice sheet is melting away. Although the situation looks bleak, they hope that their research will make lawmakers and the general public aware of what’s at stake. The takeaway from this doc is, once the polar bears are wiped out, it could be us next.
