British hip-hop musician Loyle Carner’s latest video uses some simple visual tricks to make a train journey as surreal but entertaining as possible.

The video for Ottolenghi ft. Jordan Rakei begins with grainy, lo-fi footage of Carner and assorted passengers on a train, before switching to a wide shot of the carriage with Carner on his own. What follows is a series of transitions that cleverly blocks off certain parts of the camera view to slowly reveal other passengers and situations going on inside the train.

Surrounded by people and luggage, sometimes completely alone and finally drenched in rain, it’s hard to tell whether the whole thing is a dream or not – the video concludes with a mind-bending sequence where Carner wakes up to watch himself from the train sat in a field, before eventually just walking across the ceiling of the train itself… We’ll leave it for you to decide.
