This short Christmas film from filmmaker Phil Beastall is going viral for good reason, as it packs more of a serious emotional punch into its 2 minute run-time despite only being made for around £50.

The short, titled “Love is a Gift”, follows a man who is counting down the days to Christmas – while it’s not immediately obvious why, we realise on the day that he is excited to carry out his own Christmas tradition: listening to pre-recorded tapes from his deceased mother wishing him a happy Christmas. With a fantastic concept that is carried out in a simple way, the short film carries a stronger message of what Christmas is about than any big-budget advert could hope to pull off.

A very moving video, gosh it took me back and made me cry. I lost my Mam at the age of 15 years, gosh what I would give to have her voice to listen too. This video will help so many. I am a nurse working in a Hospice we often help create memory boxes. I always think what comfort it would have given me and would still give me if I had something to treasure such as words from Mam.
Christmas magnifies grief and sadness even when many years have passed, our hearts do ache forever when you loose someone so close.
    Well done to all involved.
