This short but stylish black and white animation explains how a fire in Israel back in 2010 was the starting point for what eventually became Google’s Crisis Alert System.

Narrated by Yossi Matias, Vice President of engineering and leading the Crisis Response team at Google, he talks about how when searching for information on a large fire in the Carmel Mountains he was struck by the lack of information on offer. This led him and a small team of local engineers at Google to create one of their first Crisis Alerts, now seen as a vital part of dealing with any emergency around the world.
