This isn’t what we were expecting to come out of the world of branded content in recent weeks, yet here we are. KFC – yes, the fast food fried chicken brand – has released a 15 minute Lifetime movie about somebody falling in love with a young Colonel Sanders, called A Recipe For Seduction.
In all honesty, it’s marketing genius. This is peak branded content. It’s naturally very tongue-in-cheek, and the producers know exactly what they’re doing.
The story is of a young woman who falls for the ‘new chef’, whose specialty is a certain fried chicken recipe. Everything is naturally turned upside down by her meddling mother and villainous fiance, and you’ll have to watch the film to see how it ends.
The short film aired on Lifetime over Christmas, and we think it’s just brilliant. It’s a great depiction of how brands can team up with broadcasters and create content to entertain audiences as well as sell their products.
More of this, please, KFC.
