Kenzo recreates The Great Race for Chinese New Year with this old school animation. This year is the year of the rat and the clothing brand remakes the animal’s famous victory in this vid.

The story around the Chinese Zodiac said that a group of animals raced across a river to be given a specific year in the Chinese calendar by the Emperor. It was a tight race, but eventually the rat came first, having hitched a ride on an Ox’s back. The cunning creature jumped off at the last second securing his win. It’s a much-loved story and has been brought to life through books, art and in film many times over the years. But the guys at Kenzo wanted to make a more exciting version. What we get here is an old-school retelling of the story, that looks like a mix of Danger Mouse and old kung-fu movies.

It’s an incredibly inventive promo that perfectly captures the fun and excitement of Chinese New Year. We’ve got to say, out of all of the promos for CNY that we’ve seen, this has to be one of the best. The cartoon style is really cool and the concept behind it is great too.
