Jumbo squid caught on camera for Blue Planet II | Earth Unplugged

Let us introduce you to Edith Widder – bioluminescence expert, ocean explorer and your new hero in life. In this video by the BBC uncovering some of the techniques used to get the incredible footage for Blue Planet 2, Widder talks about how she developed a way to lure Jumbo squid out of the depths and into the open where they could be filmed by submersibles. The technique required years of research into how these mysterious animals hunted, and the developments of a special system of lights to mimic those created by the prey of the squid. The video features some incredible footage of the animals in action, combined with an interview with Widder explaining her experience and what she does for her career.
