UK broadcaster ITV shows us the world’s first ever silent ad break in an effort to get Britain talking.

We’ve all spent time sitting in the living room watching telly with our family, but it’s not the most social of activities. Our eyes are normally glued to the screen and not much conversation is had, even during ad breaks. So, ITV wanted to give us a chance to chat to each other by sacrificing their commercial break.

The ads are extremely stripped back and aren’t distracting at all. They are just a few people simply performing an action to do with a product quietly and then holding up a sign that tells you what the ad is for. It’s a massive change from the loud and bombastic ads that normally sit in the gaps between programmes. It’s a nice idea from ITV that re-thinks the purpose of broadcasters and shows that they’re willing to give up a bit of their screen time so that we can have a bit of face time with our folks.
