i-D speak to three Instagram influencers about “digital fashion”, the process of dressing models completely digitally.
Although the practice is in its infancy, the process of dressing models using digitally created clothing is a fascinating idea. By using photoshop, models can be dressed in any outfit, even if it’s never been made in real life. This process could help include plus-sized models to play a bigger role in the fashion world, as big fashion brands often don’t make clothes for larger women.
i-D also tell us how it could help to reduce the waste of “fast fashion” as well. Cast your mind back to when Burberry made headlines after it emerged that they went as far as burning their old stock in order to increase scarcity of their products, therefore pushing up the price. But, opponents of digital fashion say that it adds another level of “fakeness” to an industry already heavily criticised for overly using photo manipulation and photoshop in images of models.
