There’s no colder place for a heart than space, but Elton John and Dua Lipa bring all the heat of the party in this new music video. It’s a glittering nightclub in the skies and four claymation boys are here to shine, decked out in sequins and some familiar, colourful glasses.
The night gets even wilder when our 3D world starts slipping, and the hand-drawn animations join the party. Glowing space-flowers and sky white doves sweep across the skies, to the delight of Dua Lipa and Elton themselves. Artist Seo Young’s manga illustrations of the pair are happy to welcome us through the portal into their vibrant world.
The combination of hand-drawn and CGI stylings create uniquely unsettling worlds. 3D characters dancing in a paper flat world entice us to slip through the dimensions and follow them, bending physics to reveal a less certain world.
This meld is particularly apt for a song that combines Elton’s hits Sacrifice and Rocket Man, and celebrates his recent friendship and artistic partnership with Dua.
