i-D finds out what it’s like to be a 16 year old in Tokyo in this cool video.

As part of their 1616 series, where they chat to some sixteen year olds from major cities around the world, they meet the young people in the vid and ask them what life is like in Tokyo. It’s interesting to hear from people at this age. Unlike people in the 20s and 30s, sixteen year olds give us a purer, more down to Earth view of the city. They can’t talk about the coolest bars, affordability or high-end fashion, all they know is the vibe, soul and spirit of Tokyo.

We hear from a wide range of young people. Some are skaters, some are in rock bands and some are artists. They all have a unique perspective on what Tokyo is like and what living here means to them. What’s also interesting is that we get to hear from some BAME and mixed Japanese people too. Japan’s often thought as as being a very homogeneous country, but it’s more diverse than people think, especially in places like Tokyo.
