Vox break down something you might not have stopped to think about before in this interesting short video. The classic back-and-white chequered soccer ball has been around for decades, and is an instantly recognisable icon of the sport. Its beginnings, however, date back to the advent of live-television broadcast, when it became apparent that the old-style rubber footballs that had been used before then were not immediately visible when viewed on black and white TV sets. The changing of the balls colours led to not only a better viewing experience for television audiences but better ball-dynamics for the players.
