This animation from The Atlantic tells us how the dangerous Death Cap mushrooms are spreading around the world at an alarming rate. Inhaling the spores of these mushrooms can cause death in humans and nearby plants. In short, the less Death Caps around, the better.

In the past, the fungi were just localised in Europe. But thanks to human intervention and moving trees around the world, the Death Cap is spreading. What was once a small problem located in parts of Europe might now turn into an international epidemic.

How bad the consequences of this will be isn’t clear, but it could become a serious problem down the line. Despite telling us about a dire situation, this animation beautifully displays the impending problem and what it could mean for our ecosystem.
