Director Jay Roach tells us how he came up with and pulled off the massively over-the-top intro scene to Austin Powers: Goldmember.

The fake opening scene of the film was styled like a big-budget blockbuster. Instead of Mike Myers appearing in the titular role, Tom Cruise portrayed Powers in the scene, fooling many cinema goers for a brief moment. In fact, all of the main cast from the previous movies looked like they’d been replaced by a-listers. In true action movie style, the whole intro is ridiculously overstuffed with epic car chases, insane stunts and corny one-liners.

But even when the actual movie starts, the fun continues. Austin (now played by Mike Myers) leads a huge crowd of people down the street and performs a choreographed dance routine. The spoof spy series was known for its lampooning of thrillers like James Bond. The director walks us through each shot in this interview and tells us how he was inspired to make such an iconic scene. It wasn’t like anything audiences had seen before and it’s certainly something we won’t forget anytime soon.
